About us
GeoAtlas is an atlas and travel guide in one: every country, region, city, village, natural site and landmark gets its own page with a map, key facts and the places around it.
What you will find here
Each page is built like an atlas plate: where the place is, what kind of place it is, how many people live there, how high it lies, what time it is there and what is nearby. Lists of districts, villages and sights let you move from a country down to a single street corner of history.
Where the data comes from
Names, coordinates, population and elevation come from open geographic databases — GeoNames, OpenStreetMap and Wikidata — which we update regularly and cross-check against each other. Records that disagree are flagged for review rather than guessed.
Facts are never generated
Numbers, dates and names on this site come from the databases above or from our editors. Machine translation is used only to translate verified text, and a translation that adds or changes a number is never published.
